Well said. The bond we have with our pets runs deep, and losing them is never easy.

It really does run deep. They become family in every sense, so the loss leaves a real space that nothing else fills.

When my dog passed a year ago, I felt an actual physical pain I had never experienced before. My heart actually hurt like it was in pain. I've had a lot of rescue dogs in my life, but this sensation was new to me. Had to do a lot of breathing to calm it. Just to say, grief strikes in so many ways and as you say, it's important how you you process it. Running from it is lethal. Staying present, I believe, is the way. Thx for your beautiful piece on healing.
