One of mine is getting up there and the intensity of that day 3 years ago is starting to percolate with these questions. We did it with Joey at home and he was there, now I'm starting to see the signs. The momentary look of confusion, the halting run and unsure footing.

You are right, it's impossible to know and at the same time there is no way to rationalize the grief away. It's also part of my responsibility to be there for him and show up because that's all he and Joey did everyday.
