Thank you for this profound share. I’m so sorry for your loss of Koda, I can feel why this would be difficult. Even though I did not have a traumatic loss, I was doing hospice care, but the anticipatory grief of losing my 13 year old Duke & then losing him in July, feels so deep, quietly painful. Your substack is a gift for us all, the comfort I feel when I come here is deeply felt, that I’m not alone , that I’m surrounded by others who deeply understand. With bows of gratitude. I did write about Duke in my post “Communion” with palms together.

Thank you so much for sharing Duke with us. 🤍 I’m so sorry for your loss. Anticipatory grief can be such a quiet, deep kind of pain, and I’m grateful this space offers you even a little comfort and reminds you that you’re not alone. I’ll be sure to look for your “Communion” post. Thank you for bringing Duke’s memory here with us. 🤍

My Sullie disappeared 9 days ago. He’s my beautiful 14yo soul cat. I have never felt so despondent or felt so lost. I needed to find this essay tonight. It has validated all of the symptoms I’m experiencing. Missing him just so much it hurts. Thank you for sharing this.
